Patzcuaro is the geographic, artistic and cultural center of Michoacan. Of the 12 tourist routes that follow, eight are within an hour’s drive of Patzcuaro. Click on the links below for short descriptions of each attraction along with some helpful maps of the region.

Tourist Routes

1. The Art of Copper and the Enchanted Lake (8 hrs.):
Pátzcuaro—Santa Clara del Cobre—Zirahuén

3. Archeological Zones (9hrs.):
Ihuatzio—Tzintzuntzan—Tingambato

4. Natural Beauty and Archeological Zone (8 hrs.):
Pátzcuaro—Tzaráracua—Uruapan—Tingambato

5. The Shores of Lake Patzcuaro, Crafts and Archeological Sites (9 hrs.):
Ihuatzio—Tzintzuntzan—Quiroga—Pátzcuaro

6. Colonial Route (8 hrs.):
Pátzcuaro—Tupátaro—Tiripetio—Morelia—Pátzcuaro

7. Canyon of the 11 Towns (10 hrs.):
Cañada de los Once Pueblos—Ocumicho—Patamban—Zamora

8. The Youngest Volcano in the World (8 hrs.):
Uruapan—Volcán Paricutín—Parácho

9. Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary (12 hrs.):
Angangueo

10. The Islands of Lake Patzcuaro (6 hrs.):
Janitzio—Yunuén—Pacanda

The other two routes are to the coast and Apatzingan. Ask at the hotel’s front desk for more information about getting to the beach and places to stay in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo.
