NATURAL BEAUTY AND ARCHEOLOGICAL ZONE

Because of its prime location 1,600 mt. (5,250 ft.) above sea level, and it’s temperate, humid weather year-round, Uruapan is known as the land of “eternal spring.” It’s also the largest producer of avocados in Mexico.

The Edward Ruiz National Park (Parque Nacional “Edward Ruiz”) is a wonderful—and easily accessible—way to experience the immense natural beauty and biodiversity of Uruapan. The park, just minutes from the center of Uruapan, boasts over 500 hectares (over 1,200 acres) of lush foliage, tropical trees, gushing natural springs and rivers.

A couple of miles outside of the Uruapan city center is the towering waterfall La Tzaráracua, measuring nearly 200 feet. There are lots of hiking and horse riding trails in the area near the waterfall to soak up the calming beauty of the mountains and forests.

We also recommend that you visit La Huatapera, an old colonial hospital that now houses a well-stocked Museum of Popular Arts.

While in the area, be sure to visit the impressive archeological sites around the town of Tingambato, dating back as far as 200 AD.
