On the
way from Patzcuaro to Zamora on the free road, you’ll
come across a string of eleven small towns collectively
known as Cañada de los Once Pueblos beginning with a
village called Carapan and ending with Chilchota.
Each town is proud of its cultural and commercial
offerings, including beautiful works of decorative
pottery, traditional Purépecha music, unique breads, and
fertile agricultural lands.

Each village has its own small church and plaza, but the
churches that deserve as special visit are those in
Huáncito and Tanaquillo. Ask at the hotel’s front desk
if there are any special festivals that coincide with
your visit to the region. The experience will be
unforgettable.
Zamora is one of Michoacan’s most important
agro-industrial centers, distributing and processing the
rich crops of the region, like the famous strawberries
and a specialty dessert called chongos zamoranos. Don’t
miss the town’s many important 19th century stone
churches and cathedrals.
