Lake of Zirahuén

Santa Clara del Cobre and Zirahuén are located 23 km and 18 km from Patzcuaro respectively. We recommend that you visit Santa Clara first with the idea of returning through Zirahuen on a scenic cobblestone road constructed by local villagers. This way you’ll be able to enjoy full views of Lake Zirahuén and the enchanting countryside.

In Santa Clara, we recommend that you visit some of the master craftsmen copper shops both within the center of town and nearby. For affordable prices, you can pick up high-quality, handcrafted copper crafts to show off back home.

We especially recommend that you visit Santa Clara during the first two weeks of August, when the town celebrates the National Copper Festival, where the masters exhibit their finest pieces and the crowds soak up the art, dance and food of the region.

In Zirahuén you’ll find one of the most picturesque natural lakes in Mexico. The clear, deep waters have remained so pristine due to the ecological vigilance of local village councils.
